Study on the influence of myasthenia gravis on family planning and social support

The study analyzed the influence of myasthenia gravis (MG) on family planning and social support. Using data from 1,660 MG patients and members of the German Myasthenia Society (patient organization), the analysis shows that MG has a significant impact on family planning.

Study myasthenia

For those affected whose MG symptoms appeared before or during family planning, this significantly influenced parenthood decisions. Many decided against having children because of MG. Patients with middle income or moderate disease severity reported lower levels of social support. The importance of social support emerges as a crucial factor, particularly in the healthcare system. Tailored healthcare approaches and comprehensive support are necessary to enable informed decisions and offer help for MG patients https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38162439/
